Creating a slimmer and more defined waist is not always about fat. For many, the shape of the rib cage determines how the waist looks – regardless of exercise, diet, or liposuction. RibXcar is an advanced rib surgery that focuses on sculpting the lower ribs to maximize the shape of the waist and create a clearer, more defined silhouette. Molding is currently the only clinic in Scandinavia that performs rib modeling using this technique.

What is RibXcar rib modeling?

RibXcar is a modern method of body sculpting that works with the lower so-called floating ribs, usually 2–3 ribs per side. Unlike older methods, no ribs are removed, and they are not completely broken. Instead, advanced ultrasound technology is used to model the ribs and bend them inward.

As the ribs heal in their new position, a more retracted waistline is created, which can provide a distinctly slimmer and more defined silhouette. The treatment is always tailored to your anatomy and aesthetic goals to create a harmonious and natural result.

When liposuction is not enough

Liposuction is effective for reducing fat volume and improving body contours, but it does not affect the shape of the skeleton. In individuals with a broad rib cage or so-called rib flare, the waist may therefore appear less defined despite a low body fat percentage.

RibXcar targets the very structure that defines the waist and allows for results that cannot be achieved with liposuction alone. Therefore, the procedure is often combined with high-definition liposuction to both sculpt the rib cage and define the soft tissues around the waist.

How does a RibXcar rib surgery take place?

The surgery is performed under anesthesia and is planned individually based on your anatomy, rib shape, and aesthetic goals. The surgeon works with advanced ultrasound technology to model floating ribs without removing them.

Through a very small opening, a thin cannula is inserted along with a specially developed ultrasound device that creates a controlled groove in the rib. This allows the rib to be gently bent inward and shape a narrower waistline. The technique allows for high precision and leaves no visible scars.

After the surgery, you will stay for observation before discharge according to an individual plan.

Results – how much can the waist decrease?

The results vary depending on anatomy, skin quality, and aftercare, but many patients can achieve a reduction in waist measurement of about 6–10 cm. The goal is not only to reduce the circumference but to create a more proportionate silhouette and a clearer waist contour.

Aftercare and girdle – a crucial part of the result

Aftercare is a central part of the treatment and greatly affects the final result. After the surgery, you will wear a girdle for at least three months to stabilize the new position of the ribs during healing.

The level of compression and how consistently the girdle is used play an important role – meaning that you as a patient can actively influence how defined the waist becomes and how much the circumference decreases over time. This makes the aftercare phase an active part of the treatment, where we guide you to achieve an optimal and harmonious result.

Performed by Dr. Thomas Jonsson – trained in South America

All RibXcar surgeries at Molding are performed by Dr. Thomas Jonsson, who has been trained in the technique in South America where rib modeling has been developed and refined. The procedure requires high surgical precision, deep anatomical understanding, and careful patient selection.

Molding is currently the only clinic in Scandinavia offering this type of rib surgery – with a focus on safety, innovation, and aesthetic precision.
